VBoxHeadlessTray Released

Wednesday, 10 February 2010

Get those VirtualBox windows off your desktop and into your tray.

VBoxHeadlessTray is a simple utility I wrote some time ago that hosts a VirtualBox virtual machine as a Windows tray icon. Today I cleaned it up a little and released it as a free utility.

Full instructons, download and source code here.

Hi, greate work, I was looking for something like this for long time.

it works fine after logon. is there a possibility to run the VM without logging on? so that it starts before logon?

Thx HoKe

No, there's no option to launch before logging into windows. However you might be interested in this http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4762 which runs a VM as a Windows service.

I wanted something halfway between that and the current VirtualBox frontend GUI, which is VBoxHeadlessTray.

Thanks! Was just minimizing my windows but after I found this, there is less clutter. Thanks again.

Virtualbox 3.2 was just released today. Your fantastic nearly perfect little tool, VBoxHeadlessTray stopped working for me. Looking forward to an update.
